DAVID B. CATES ~ Class of 1966

David B. Cates, 62, died April 30, 2009 from heart failure at his home in Kennewick. He was born October 16, 1946 in Richland and was a life-long Tri-City resident.

David graduated with the Class of 1966 from Richland's Columbia High School but had attended school with the Class of 1965. He worked in shipping and receiving for PNNL for 31 years. David was an avid golfer and bowler.

David was preceded in death by his parents, Ed and Carrie Cates; and brother, Ron Cates ('66), who passed away April 22, 2002.

He left behind his wife, Faye Erdman Cates ('65); son, Randy; daughter-in-law, Beth; and three grandchildren of Bend, OR. He is also survived by three sisters: Cindy ('70) and Wally Ely, Katherine "Kady" Chadwick ('72) and Susan Cates ('78HHS); sister-in-law, Penny Bowen Cates ('67); nephews: Stephen Cates, Chance Chadwick and Josh Chadwick; and one niece, Laura Boudreaux.

Einan's Funeral Home, Richland, was in charge of arrangements.

His brother-in-law, Wally Ely, passed away March 23, 2007.

His sister, Susan Cates ('78HHS), passed away December 18, 2015.

His sister, Cindy Cates Ely ('70), passed away February 24, 2021.

His wife, Faye Erdman Cates ('65), passed away April 10, 2022.

His sister, Kady Cates Chadwick ('72), passed away January 8, 2023.
