Kurt was born in San Francisco, CA on April 21, 1948. He grew up in Richland where he attended Spalding Elementary School, Chief Jo Junior High School and graduated with the Class of 1966 from Richland's Columbia High School.

He was in Choir at Chief Jo. While in high school he was in Advanced Choir and played on the Varsity Basketball team both his junior and senior years.

He served in the U. S. Army in Vietnam as an SP4 enlisting on May 14, 1970 and was discharged May 14, 1974.

Kurt married Linda Gayle Palma in 1971, and they had two daughters: Desha and Tara. He also had two grandchildren when he passed away.

Kurt's siblings are Karen Crownover ('60) and Keith Crownover ('62). His father passed away in 1978, and his mother retired in 1983 and moved to southern CA.

According to Pat Crownover, his aunt, Kurt had an abdominal aneurysm which spread throughout his body. He lived 11 months in ICU before passing away on July 16, 2005 while living in La Mesa, CA and is buried at Ft. Rosecrans National Cemetery in San Diego, CA.
