Rojean Grazzini

Rojean Sue Grazzini Garnica, age 71, passed away on the morning of November 6, 2019. All week she had been surrounded by family and loved ones in the Virginia Mason Hospital in Seattle.

She was born in Tacoma on May 8, 1948, to Dorothy and Fred Grazzini. She grew up in Richland where she attended Spalding Grade School, Chief Jo Junior High School and graduated with the Class of 1966 from Richland's Columbia High School. Rojean loved to sing, dance and write which she did throughout her life. She performed leading parts in several musicals, and published articles in newspapers and magazines.

Rojean married Luis Sandoval Garnica on August 17, 1970, in the Salt Lake City LDS Temple, and together they raised five children, living over thirty years in Bothell, WA.

She received her bachelor's degree in Psychology from the University of Washington and then later a master's in Education. She worked as a reading recovery teacher for Mountlake Terrace Elementary for 23 years. She was a national board certified teacher and in 2006 received the Golden Apple Award, which honors excellence in teaching and those who are making a positive difference in Washington State education.

Rojean was always an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. In her later years, Rojean loved taking walks by the water, reading, writing, researching health and visiting with family and friends.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Fred and Dorothy Grazzini; and by her husband, Luis Sandoval Garnica, who passed away September 4, 2015.

Rojean is survived by her five children: Luis Garnica, Pepa Garnica, Fred Garnica, Elisa Smith and Rebecca Romney: as well as her five siblings: Nello ('71), Fred ('71), Jolene, Charmaine and Jill; 16 grandchildren; and two great grandchildren.

The family wishes to extend sincere thanks to oncologists, acupuncturists, Chinese herbalists, chiropractors and Jesus Christ, all of whom blessed her and allowed her to have a life extension when she was diagnosed with Pancreatic Neuroendocrine tumor cancer, ten years ago.
