Laurence Waldo "Buck" Mabbutt, DDS, PS of Seabeck, WA passed away Monday, July 26, 2004, after a courageous battle with pancreatic cancer.

Dr. Mabbutt was born in Pasco on February 27, 1948 to Waldo Louis Mabbutt and Margaret Rice Mabbutt. He was raised in Richland where he attended Lewis and Clark Elementary School, Carmichael Junior High School and graduated with the Class of 1966 from Richland's Columbia High School.

He attended Washington State University for three years, then transferred to the University of Washington Dental School, graduating in 1973.

He served three years in the United States Army at Fort Leonard Wood, MO and Fort Ord in Monterey, CA before returning to University of Washington to obtain his orthodontic doctorate in 1978.

Dr. Mabbutt was in private practice for more than 25 years in the Silverdale, Bremerton and Port Orchard areas.

Professionally, Dr. Mabbutt was an active member of the Puget Sound Orthodontic Study Club, American Association of Orthodontists, Kitsap County Dental Society, Washington State Dental Association and held a position on the University of Washington Dental Faculty.

Personally, he was a member of Ducks Unlimited, lifetime member of the National Rifle Association, Washington Arms Collectors, Safari Club International, lifetime member of "HOG," Silverdale Rotary and climbed to the summit of Mount Rainier.

He served on a Washington State Department Fish and Wildlife committee that was instrumental in the passage of the current Washington State Migratory Bird Stamp Program. Revenues from the sale of these stamps continue to provide funding to protect migratory birds in Washington State.

Survivors include his wife, Joan Mabbutt of Seabeck; his mother, Margaret Mabbutt of Richland; his sister, Myrna Mabbutt Harting ('67) (Gary) of Burbank; his sister, Elizabeth "Libby" Mabbutt Anderson ('75) (Mark) of Seattle; his brother, Clark Mabbutt ('70) [Anne Crowley Mabbutt ('70] of Colfax; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Dr. Mabbutt was devoted to his five children and grandson: Ann Marie Rogers (Dave) of Phoenix and grandson, Evan; Todd Louis Mabbutt (Britt) of Tacoma (mother, Kathy Quigley of Pasco); Christopher Laurence Mabbutt (Kristin) of Oak Harbor, WA; Nicholas Alexander Mabbutt (Mariza) of Kingston, WA; Prescott Nathaniel Mabbutt of Oak Harbor, WA (mother, Carol Mabbutt of Poulsbo).

Dr. Laurence Waldo "Buck" Mabbutt was an amazing man.

He had a passion to live life to its fullest and sharing it with all he knew.

He was an avid sportsman, enjoyed Harley Davidson rides, world traveling, licensed pilot, entertaining and spending time with his friends and family.

A celebration of his life was held at 7pm on Friday, August 6, 2004, at the Admiral Theatre in Bremerton following a private family service in Richland. Burial was at Sunset Memorial Gardens; Garden of Love and Rest; Block 2; Lot 9 [Sp. 1].
