BOMBER MEMORIAL
CAROLINE KAY STANFIELD BOETES ~ Class of 1966
May 18, 1948 - September 10, 2022
Beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, auntie
and cherished friend, Caroline Kay Stanfield Boetes passed
away on Saturday, September 10, 2022, at the age of 74.
Caroline was born May 18, 1948, in Twin Falls, ID but was nearly a lifelong
resident of Richland where her parents (Milo and LaBarbara) settled
when she was just four years old.
She graduated from Richland's Columbia
High School in 1966 and went on to earn her BS in Sociology
with a minor in English from Brigham Young University in 1970.
Caroline loved to sew and was a lifelong maker. She was a
collector of interesting objects and had a knack for finding the
beauty in the discarded or mundane and often incorporated
found items into creative projects. She took after her parents in
her steadfast work ethic and her aptitude to repair and refurbish
the belongings in the world around her. She was an avid reader,
especially fond of classic literature and poetry. As she would
often say about others, Caroline was incredibly beautiful “inside
and out”. Her lifelong philosophy was one of loving kindness,
and she lived that in the gentle ways she treated all living
creatures.
Caroline, or Mama-Nana, was completely devoted to her
children, grandchildren and great-grandchild. She built her life
around nurturing and celebrating them. Her dedication to the
care and protection of children extended far beyond her own
family. She was especially devoted to our community’s most
vulnerable youth, or as she put it, “looking after discarded kids”.
Many now-grown adults will attest to her innate ability to see
the good in young people in crisis and her willingness to provide
them with love and acceptance when it was needed most.
She is survived by her children: Jonathan Boetes, Joshua
Boetes, Mackenzie Boetes Koser and Zachary Boetes; her
grandchildren: Jade Boetes, Mia Boetes, Sofia Boetes and Milo
Koser; and her great-grandchild, Scarlett Cole; as well as the
father of her children, Russ Boetes. She is also survived by one
brother, Lynn Stanfield ('68 honorary); and three sisters, Laurene Stanfield Petty
Beckwith ('73), Louisa Stanfield Slater ('75) and Janet Stanfield DeGraw ('77); as well as many
adored nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her
parents, Milo and LaBarbara Stanfield; and her three sisters,
Elaine "Lainee" Stanfield Hill ('64),
Anita Stanfield Sanders ('70) and Joy Stanfield Kesel ('71).
Caroline will be
profoundly missed by all who were touched by her generous
and tender spirit.
A celebration of Caroline’s life will be hosted by the family in the
coming months at a yet to be determined time. In lieu of flowers, the
family requests that donations be made in Caroline’s memory to
Bridges APG, a Seattle-based alternative peer group dedicated to
serving youth in substance abuse recovery and their families.
